BOUNDARY WORK · SHARED WALLS · FAULTS AFTER ALTERATIONS

Need an Electric Fence COC in Darrenwood?

Extending a wall, replacing a gate or repairing a fence in Darrenwood? Include the electric fence before the building work is finished. Wesslink can inspect an existing installation, quote for electric fence repairs and explain the inspection needed if an electric fence COC forms part of your property project.

A builder or gate contractor should not be expected to certify electrical fence work. Agree who will handle the fence and when it will be assessed after the surrounding work.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Keep the fence part of the renovation from the beginning.

Darrenwood Residents Association provides separate reporting guidance for roads, parks and other municipal issues. At a private property, begin by identifying the wall, entrance or fence section being changed. If the project also affects a public verge or neighbouring land, resolve that work with the responsible party while Wesslink assesses the electric fence installation.

01

A wall is being raised or rebuilt

Share the proposed work before existing fence components are moved. The installer needs to understand the intended finished boundary and how the fence will be supported. Have applicable permissions in place, particularly where a wall or perimeter is shared, and avoid making alterations to live fence wires.

02

The entrance is moving

A new gate position can affect more than the visible opening. Show the old and proposed entrance and explain what the gate contractor will change. Arrange the electric fence installation work as part of that plan so a temporary gap or disturbed connection is not forgotten after the gate is fitted.

03

The work is already complete

Tell Wesslink exactly what was changed and whether the fence operated before and after the project. Provide photographs taken during the work if you have them. Inspection can then assess the current installation without relying on a finished wall to reveal every earlier alteration.

Leave room for inspection before the final finishes.

Discuss the sequence with the people doing the wall, gate and fence work. If a cable route, connection or mounting point will be covered, ask the relevant contractor what needs inspection before it is concealed. Do not remove plaster or open electrical equipment yourself to help; explain the access problem and let the professionals agree the next step.

At the end of the project, request a clear account of the fence work completed and any remaining items. Keep it with the earlier certificate and alteration information. If the property is occupied throughout the work, make arrangements to keep children, visitors and animals clear of the work area. Temporary access arrangements should be agreed for the site rather than assumed from a suburb name.

INSPECTION & TESTING

What does an electric fence COC inspection cover?

A working energiser is one part of the system. The inspection also considers the fence installation, its safety provisions and the test results.

An electric fence certificate follows inspection and testing by a registered person. Defects affecting compliance must be corrected before certification. Read Regulations 12–13 ↗

ELECTRIC FENCE COC COSTS

Get a quote for the fence you actually have.

For a Darrenwood renovation quote, describe both the existing fence and the intended change. Include who is responsible for building work, gate work and making good. If the fence has already been disturbed, an assessment may be needed before the repair can be priced accurately. Ask which items are included rather than assuming every trade is covered.

Questions before you book.

Practical answers for owners, sellers and property managers.

Can I request an electric fence compliance certificate after the builder finishes?

Yes, but tell Wesslink about the project early where possible. Inspection may identify work that is easier to address before finishes are closed. Certification depends on the fence installation and findings, not the completion of the building contract.

Does the old electric fence certificate of compliance cover a new gate opening?

Provide the old certificate and describe the change. The altered installation needs to be assessed; do not assume the earlier document describes the new arrangement. Wesslink can explain the inspection and any remedial work required.

Is your electric fence alarming since the wall or gate work?

Report the timing and the work performed. Electric fence fault finding can investigate the present installation. Do not bridge the opening, move wires or repeatedly reset equipment to prove which contractor caused the problem.

Who deals with a damaged public verge next to the fence?

Raise the public-area issue with the responsible authority or contractor, using the appropriate reporting channel. Wesslink can assess the private fence work requested. Keep the two jobs clear so an unresolved verge or access issue is not mistaken for a completed fence repair.

Who can issue an electric fence certificate of compliance?

A registered electric fence system installer may issue an electric fence compliance certificate after the required inspection and testing. An ordinary electrical COC is a separate document.

Will the inspection fee include repairs?

Ask for the inspection, any repairs and any return visit to be itemised in the quote. The work required depends on what is found; a price should not assume that the fence will pass before it has been inspected.
