ALARMS NEAR LIVING SPACES · CHANGED ROOM USE · PROPER ASSESSMENT

Need an Electric Fence COC in Discovery?

Is a fence alarm disrupting sleep or work at your Discovery property? Wesslink can investigate the reported concern and discuss appropriate electric fence repairs. If you also need an electric fence COC, mention that when enquiring so the repair and inspection requirements can be considered together.

Do not disconnect a sounder, bypass a section or alter unfamiliar settings to make the property quieter. Report the symptom and arrange assessment of the installation.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Explain the disturbance as well as the fence symptom.

For a Discovery home where a spare room has become a bedroom or workspace, fence equipment may now be closer to a regularly occupied area. If this applies to you, explain both the existing alarm behaviour and the change in room use. The enquiry can then distinguish a fault from a separate request to reconsider equipment position.

01

An alarm now interrupts a bedroom

Describe when it sounds, where it is heard and any information already visible on the equipment. Do not ask someone to trigger the fence for a demonstration. Useful existing observations help the technician understand the complaint without creating another unsafe situation.

02

You want equipment moved away from a workspace

Explain the proposed location and the room changes before buying a replacement unit. Relocation may involve associated connections and access requirements. Ask for that work to be assessed as a planned alteration, rather than assuming moving the box alone will resolve an alarm fault.

03

Different household members describe the noise differently

Collect brief descriptions of what each person actually noticed. Identify whether they mean a siren, a short warning sound or another noise nearby. Electric fence fault finding can investigate the installation without relying on an assumed cause based only on the word alarm.

Solve the reported problem before changing the arrangement.

Ask the findings to explain what needs repairing and what relates to your preferred room use. You may choose both repair and relocation, but the quotation should make those decisions understandable. If no complete assessment has yet been possible, ask what access or further work is needed before deciding on replacement.

For a new electric fence installation, describe where people sleep, work and normally reach the controls. Let the professional assess the equipment arrangement and obtain applicable property approvals. Keep normal operating instructions available to the household so a future warning leads to a useful report rather than repeated improvisation.

INSPECTION & TESTING

What does an electric fence COC inspection cover?

A working energiser is one part of the system. The inspection also considers the fence installation, its safety provisions and the test results.

An electric fence certificate follows inspection and testing by a registered person. Defects affecting compliance must be corrected before certification. Read Regulations 12–13 ↗

Identify the equipment and the fence sections it supplies, including alterations and gate crossings.

  2. 02

    Earthing and physical condition

Inspect the earth system, wires, joints, brackets and insulators, together with the installation’s condition.

  3. 03

    Warning signs and accessible areas

Check the safety provisions around the fence, including signs and places where people can approach it.

  4. 04

    Testing, corrections and certification

Explain defects found, agree the repair work and complete the checks needed before certification.

ELECTRIC FENCE COC COSTS

Get a quote for the fence you actually have.

A Discovery enquiry should state whether you want a fault investigated, equipment relocation considered or both. Provide the current symptoms and any proposed room changes. Ask what the investigation includes and what would be separately quoted, especially where an existing position is awkward but the cause of the alarm is still unknown.

Questions before you book.

Practical answers for owners, sellers and property managers.

Can an electric fence compliance certificate enquiry include a relocation request?

Yes. Explain both requirements before work is agreed. The intended alteration and relevant inspection need to be considered together, including any associated work and applicable property approval.

Should relocation be recorded with the electric fence certificate of compliance?

Keep the completed alteration description and relevant inspection documents together. The person using the property should understand where the equipment is now located and how to use its normal controls.

Is your electric fence alarming while someone is sleeping nearby?

Keep clear of the installation and report the symptom without disabling or adjusting components. Explain where the sound is heard and whether the equipment shows any indication already visible safely. Arrange professional assessment.

Can Wesslink tell whether the sound is from my fence?

Describe the location and any normal indications you have already observed. The technician can assess your authorised installation. Do not enter neighbouring property or handle equipment to try to identify an uncertain sound.

Who can issue an electric fence certificate of compliance?

A registered electric fence system installer may issue an electric fence compliance certificate after the required inspection and testing. An ordinary electrical COC is a separate document.

Will the inspection fee include repairs?

Ask for the inspection, any repairs and any return visit to be itemised in the quote. The work required depends on what is found; a price should not assume that the fence will pass before it has been inspected.
