Selling a property, changing a boundary wall or trying to find the fence certificate before transfer? Book an electric fence inspection with Wesslink. We can check the electric fence installation, explain any defects and quote for the work needed before certification.
Your property’s electrical COC and its electric fence COC cover different installations. Tell us if you need both.
In Sandton, first establish which fence you need certified.
A freestanding house, an apartment development and an office park can have very different arrangements. Before booking, find out whether the fence belongs to your property or forms part of a shared perimeter. That determines who needs to provide access and the existing records.
01
Selling a freestanding home?
Send the street address and tell us whether the fence surrounds the whole property. Include any changes to the driveway gate, boundary wall or garden-cottage entrance since the previous certificate. Those changes help us identify what needs checking before the transfer deadline.
02
Buying or selling in a complex?
An apartment’s electrical COC does not identify the condition of a shared electric fence. Ask the managing agent for the fence certificate and the person responsible for the energiser. A unit owner may not be able to authorise access to that equipment.
03
Managing a Sandton business property?
Arrange the visit with the facilities or security contact, especially where testing affects an alarm-linked boundary. Explain whether the enquiry is for one tenant’s installation or the property’s perimeter, and agree access to service yards as well as the main entrance.
Precinct security and a property’s fence are different responsibilities.
Sandton Central has a management district serving its business precinct, with public-space security and urban-management services. That does not tell us who maintains the electric fence at a particular building. For an inspection, we still need the property’s own authorised contact and access to its installation.
Give us the suburb as well as the street address, particularly for a multi-tenant building. Confirm how the inspector will reach the energiser, service yards and rear boundary. If these areas are locked or controlled by different people, arrange access before the visit to avoid an incomplete inspection.
INSPECTION & TESTING
What does an electric fence COC inspection cover?
A working energiser is one part of the system. The inspection also considers the fence installation, its safety provisions and the test results.
An electric fence certificate follows inspection and testing by a registered person. Defects affecting compliance must be corrected before certification. Read Regulations 12–13 ↗
01
The energiser and fence circuit
Identify the equipment and the fence sections it supplies, including alterations and gate crossings.
02
Earthing and physical condition
Inspect the earth system, wires, joints, brackets and insulators, together with the installation’s condition.
03
Warning signs and accessible areas
Check the safety provisions around the fence, including signs and places where people can approach it.
04
Testing, corrections and certification
Explain defects found, agree the repair work and complete the checks needed before certification.
ELECTRIC FENCE COC COSTS
Get a quote for the fence you actually have.
For a Sandton electric fence COC quote, tell us the property type, approximate perimeter and whether there is more than one energiser. A home inspection and a multi-zone office boundary need different allowances for access and testing. Electric fence repairs should be itemised against the findings. For new fencing or changes at an estate or complex, confirm any required management approval before work begins.
Practical answers for owners, sellers and property managers.
Do I need an electric fence COC when selling a house in Sandton?+
If the property has an electric fence, check its certificate early in the transfer process. The fence certificate is separate from the home’s electrical COC. Send the existing document and details of later alterations so the installation and paperwork can be assessed together.
Can Wesslink inspect a shared fence at a Sandton complex?+
Contact us with the complex name and the managing agent or trustee’s details. We need authority to inspect the shared system and access to the energiser and perimeter. A booking for one apartment should not be treated as permission to work on the whole complex.
Will you replace the whole fence if it does not pass?+
That depends on the findings. A quotation should identify the defects and proposed work; a failed component does not by itself establish that every part needs replacing. Inspection comes before deciding on the repairs.
Can the inspection be arranged before my transfer deadline?+
Tell us the deadline when you enquire. We can confirm appointment availability and discuss access, but the date for certification also depends on the condition of the fence and any repairs or retesting required.
Is your electric fence alarming at your Sandton home or business?+
Tell us when the alarm sounds, which zone is displayed if known, and about recent gate or boundary work. Wesslink can check the fence and energiser through electric fence fault finding and quote for repairs. For a shared fence, ask the manager to arrange access and any necessary monitoring notifications.
Who can issue an electric fence certificate of compliance?+
A registered electric fence system installer may issue an electric fence compliance certificate after the required inspection and testing. An ordinary electrical COC is a separate document.
Will the inspection fee include repairs?+
Ask for the inspection, any repairs and any return visit to be itemised in the quote. The work required depends on what is found; a price should not assume that the fence will pass before it has been inspected.
